【講義概要】
At this seminar, we will discuss the challenges of living and working within the limits of the ecosystems around us, focusing on peatland ecosystems. Peatlands store large amounts of carbon. Depending on how water and vegetation are managed, they can continue to capture carbon, but they change to carbon emitters when they are drained. Maintaining peatland biodiversity and managing the role of peatlands in the climate system requires novel economic approaches to integrate sustainable resource management into business concepts. Transdisciplinary research involving scientists from all relevant fields as well as practitioners is needed to achieve this. This seminar provides a forum to explore these opportunities for collaboration.
